Percussionist Roger Osbourn founded the orchestra by ringing around his musical friends for a get-together and rehearsal in November 1967. Initially, about a dozen musicians were involved and rehearsals were in a function room in the Milton Arms pub. Billie Bell became the first Conductor, and there was a memorable performance some time in the late 60s in Bedford Gaol.
